Sports massage explained

Sports massage uses a mix of techniques, including deep strokes, kneading, compression, stretching and Fascia release, aimed at the muscles you use most in your sport or daily life. Unlike a relaxation massage, the pressure and focus change from area to area depending on what the assessment shows.

What happens in a sports massage

A good session starts by looking at how you move before any hands on work begins.

  • A conversation about your sport, training and any aches
  • Movement tests such as a squat, lunge or reach
  • Treatment of the muscles and Fascia under most load
  • The same tests repeated so you can feel the change

What is sports massage? reviews

★★★★★
I have suffered with constant overuse injuries for two years before I hired James. Since I started working with James, and getting regular treatment from him, I have stayed injury free for over 3 years.

It opened my body up loads to where I could train harder for longer, and recover faster. I've sent people to James with fibromyalgia, back pain, sciatica and everyone has been helped.

Questions

What is sports massage?: questions answered

Is sports massage painful?

It is firm, and some areas can feel intense, but pressure is always agreed with you.

What should I wear?

Shorts, and a vest top if you like. You are covered with towels throughout.

Is sports massage the same as deep tissue massage?

They overlap. Sports massage is planned around how you train and move; deep tissue massage focuses on deep, long standing tension.
